The calendar says "spring." Days are longer. Birds are twittering joyously, emerald shoots peek up from melting snow and spring-new sun shines gloriously. Banish Winter Blahs or (at Least) Balance Blues and BlissSafe, Cheap Spring Cleaning, Home Maintenance Projects
Shopping at Menards's today, my husband and I noticed that others had the same idea as us: spring cleaning, and home and yard maintenance. It's finally warm and dry enough to tackle outdoor work. Want to cut utility and repair bills? And more importantly, prevent accidents? Here are little projects that save big money and increase safety. My husband is a millwright and avid DIYer. Here are his top home maintenance tips. You could pay to have these jobs done, but why not save the money? These maintenance tips can cut your utility and repair bills in half. Proper home maintenance is the cheapest extended warranty plan, too. Easy Spring Cleaning and Home Maintenance Projects that Save Big MoneyNatural Weight Loss Supplements, Fat Burners

I put on 100 pounds after losing two babies and taking an antidepressent. I started dieting 18 months ago, but got serious about it six months ago. I began counting calories in earnest and weeding out junk food out. Then I tried some herbal supplements that have really boosted the weight loss. I've shaved off 55 pounds (update 6/23/14--I've lost 100 total since writing this). I've waited to recommend them to see if they really work and they do. If you're trying to lose weight here, are diet supplements to help. Natural Weight Loss Supplements, Fat Burners
Qnexa Anti-Obesity Drug a Poor Substitute for Diet, Exercise
The Food and Drug Administration has approved the anti-obesity drug Qnexa for weight loss. Qnexa, an anticonvulsant plus appetite suppressant cocktail, has risks, says the LA Times. The FDA says being fat is a bigger threat to health than those issues, though.
I disagree, but not just because of the potential for birth defect and heart problems. Qnexa or any other diet pill is a placebo, an enabler. It doesn't address the real problems with obesity which are eating too much and doing too little. And I know what I'm talking about. I put on 100 pounds, thanks largely to a pill and the vicious circle of health problems it caused (Paxil antidepressant). I have lost a little over half of the weight just from changing to a healthier diet. I haven't even added much exercise. I have several back issues (not from obesity but from structural defects). If you need a supplement to jump start weight loss, try a green tea-antioxidant supplement. Mega-T is a great appetite suppressant and it's natural! For an herbal water pill try (Uva Ursi, Parsley, cranberry). And don't forget a natural fruit cleanse: bilberry, Alive, Whole Food Multi. Please, for health's sake, avoid diet drugs. If I can do it, so can you. Qnexa Anti-Obesity Drug a Poor Substitute for Diet, ExerciseSkip the Winter Flu Vaccine with Vitamins, Herbs, Good Nutrition and Common Sense
In fall, everyone jumps on "flu shot" bandwagon, it seems. The FDA, CDC, doctors, schools and pharmacies breathe down our necks to get vaccinated, I feel like David against Goliath. I refuse the flu shot; I'd rather stay healthy with herbs, vitamins, supplements, good nutrition and common sense. Why would I not get the flu shot and have my children vaccinated? Several reasons: first, I don't submit to any unilateral dousing of drugs and I'm certainly not going to expose myself or my kids to a live strain of flu, when they've shown no reason to need it. Second, my husband discussed the flu vaccine with his employer's company nurse. She made a cogent point. Once a person has received the flu vaccine, they are likely to need it again every year from that time going forward. I'm not ready to start down that road and I'm certainly not subjecting my children to a possible lifetime "addiction" to the flu shot. When they are of age, they can make that decision. There's also the concern that it only vaccinates against a few strains. It's a guessing games which ones will be prevalent. Also, my oldest daughter was wrongly give the H1N1 in 2009 when she was ALREADY ILL with it! She was deatlhy ill for weeks. Her doc later admitted they shouldn't have pushed it. Rather obvious to me and I'm only a lay person. From a medico, it's reprehensible. Instead, I use these tips. read more
